Yoga Sharer
Dr. Jerika Johnstone
Dr. Jerika Johnstone calls herself a “Cali- Cowgirl- Jawn”. She was born and raised in Oakland by her mother and spent many formative years in Houston with her father. She has lived in Philly for over a decade and her journey from Spelman College, Teachers College Columbia University and the University of Minnesota, has always centered on helping youth. Her interest in culturally relevant pedagogy led her to study Comparative & International Educational Development in places like Ghana, Costa Rica, South Africa, Jamaica and Zimbabwe. Jerika’s work throughout the Diaspora and within African-centered and culturally diverse settings, led her to the Kemetic tradition of Yoga.
Kemetic Yoga refers to the entire spiritual system of self-development created by the sages of ancient Egypt. Understanding our connection to the spirits of our ancestors and the true nature of Divine Universal Forces helps us in ‘remembering’ who we truly are. Dr. Jerika strives to connect and empower others by appealing to multiple learning styles and activating the visual, musical and kinesthetic expressions that live within us.
As a certified Kemetic Yoga teacher, Jerika loves reminding all of us that what connects us is eternal (think Ankh). This eternal connection and sense of oneness- with self, others and nature- instills peace, well-being and ultimately healing. We have the power to heal ourselves, heal others and heal the planet through conscious intention and yoga. To heal and to shine is simply one’s birthright. Jeri“KA” is here to enliven the limitless potential of each unique KA (spirit) through connection, yoga and love.
